  • Several buses run between Geneva and Lausanne. The bus journey takes about 1 hour 30 minutes and is a more affordable option than the train. You can find bus timetables and tickets online or at the bus station.

  • The car journey takes 1 hour. The highway is well-maintained and very well-signposted. Parking in Lausanne can be expensive, so it is best to use public transport if you are only staying in the city center.

I did this route both by train and by car. Of course, the train is more practical. But, the back roads that lead from Geneva to Lausanne (1h43 min) are simply beautiful, with stunning views of the lake most of the time.


I recommend stopping in a village along the way for a hot chocolate or a coffee. Avoid the highway! The 43 extra minutes are worth it.
